ADA calls upon dentists to postpone elective procedures
CHICAGO, Ill., USA: On March 17, the American Dental Association issued a recommendation to member dentists that dental practices across the U.S. postpone elective procedures for the next three weeks to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
The ADA news release announcing the recommendation stated that the ADA recognizes the unprecedented and extraordinary circumstances dentists and all health-care professionals are facing related to growing concern about COVID-19.
For dentistry to do its part, the ADA is recommending that dentists concentrate on only emergency dental care — to help alleviate the burden that dental emergencies could place on hospital emergency departments.
The ADA release stated: As health-care professionals, it is up to dentists to make well-informed decisions about their patients and practices. The ADA is committed to providing the latest information to the profession in a useful and timely manner. The ADA is continually evaluating and will update its recommendation on an ongoing basis as new information becomes available. Please visit ADA.org/virus for the latest information.
The CDC guidelines for COVID-19 control in dental health-care settings also are being provided to dental practices by the ADA.
